Time, who has it?

I feel like I’m so busy at the moment it’s making me sick. I have footage to edit for Rock’em & Sock’em, I have dvd’s to make for a client, I have a crap load of yard work here at the house, my desk is a mess, the CRC Pictures web site is still not up, this site here still needs a lot work done to it, as well as the next podcast, and above all that, I am in the middle of finalizing the script for the new series I am working on. The one thing I want to finish the most but seem to be giving the least amount of attention to. Pre-production has begun but it’s at a snail’s pase at the moment. I have actors intrested in working, I have some of the locations secured, and most of the props. Now all I need is a final script laid down. Once that happens “it will be on like Vultron“. What makes this so difficult at the moment is I just started waiting tables again to make a little cash until the next big project comes up. So now I’m working like 30 hours a week there. Plus throw in the fact that I just bought a new video card which now allows me to play video games again and even more of my time is taken away. And you can’t blame me, it’s been like 8 months since I’ve played anything. So this is what I have on my plate at the moment. I will hopefully have most of this done friday and want to have the script done by Monday. But we’ll see. My DVR is full and has begun deleting the old stuff so there’s that. I have saved the super important stuff but I do need to catch up on a few shows. And of course there’s the 3 dvds from NetFlix that have been sitting there for a month too. Bah, maybe I can buy some time on Ebay.

Catch ‘Lost’ ‘Alias’ Online a Day Later - With Unskippable Ads

Yesterday, Disney announced details of the plan. Mobile Media Content

These days just about everyone has some portable device that plays video. Whether it be a phone, PDA, iPod, or even the PSP. But what are people watching on these wonderful devices? You would be surprised to find that there are tons of content and new stuff poping up everyday. I think it all started with podcasts but now there are video podcasts, movie trailers, music videos, and even your favorite episodes of popular tv shows. But the one that I most intrested in are the original “Online Shows”; shows created specifically for these devices. And it seems I’m not the only one, an article from designtechnica:

Six shows made for mobile phones, handhelds, and the Internet have been nominated in their own “nontraditional platforms” Emmy category.
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is keeping up with the times, creating a new award for “original entertainment programming created specifically for nontraditional viewing platforms” to recognize shows produced exclusively for mobile phones, handhelds, and the Internet. Who knew that pixelated, stuttery stuff you maybe tried to watch once or twice was maybe Emmy-worthy material?

Emmy judges have presented six nominees from a field of 74 contenders, more than any other Emmy category this year. The only real requirement for nomination was that the show not first appear in television or other traditional media.

Peter Price, President and CEO of the National Television Academy, said, “These represent a broad cross section of what is being done in the broadband arena, and the six nominees display outstanding use of the media, including multiple feeds, interactivity and cross-media approaches as well as entertaining video content.”

Without further ado, the “nontraditional platform” nominees are:

* 24: Conspiracy—an adaption of the hit Fox series 24 for mobile phones.

* MtvU Stand In—short episodes on university life from
* Stand In shown on MTV’s broadband channel Uber.

* Sophie Chase—online police drama starring Kate Clarke.

* Stanger Adventures: Helen Beaumont—an online, interactive puzzle contest combining email and video; each week’s episode contains clues.

* It’s JerryTime!—an animated blog about a single, 40-something guy.

* Live 8 on AOL—AOL’s live coverage of the Live 8 concerts for relief of global poverty.

The winner will be announced at the Daytime Emmys on April 22, 2006.

Now this is very cool. The fact that they are recegnizing these shows is awesome. Also podcasts such as Diggnation have already been getting props by being put on Tivo’s podcast list. There is plenty of content out there, you just need to know where to look. iTunes is a start.

These types of shows are exactly what I am researching and plan on filming here in the weeks to come. Stay tuned, I plan on keeping everyone updated on the new series.

Google has done it again…

From Pocket-lint

“Google has won its bid to cover San Francisco with blanket Wi-Fi access suggesting that a series of similar schemes could soon be rolling out across the US and beyond.

In a statement by the Department of Telecommunications and Information Services (DTIS) in San Francisco, the government department said that it “will initiate contract negotiations with Earthlink/Google to create a universal, affordable wireless broadband network in the City”.

Google and Earthlink beat competition from rivals including IBM and Cisco Systems for the right to build the $15m infrastructure to support the project.

Google is expected to offer the service for free with users agreeing to be shown adverts as they view pages.

Earthlink will provide a service that runs about four times faster, although users will have to pay a subscription of around $20 (£11.40) a month for access.

Google already offers blanket coverage for the entire city of Mountain View with free Wi-Fi - no strings (or wires) attached.

When the company launched the offering in November last year it was clear that the Mountain View Wi-Fi offering is prelude to much larger things.

“The company wants to use Mountain View as a test site to learn more about the cost and the challenges of building and supporting a wireless network, with the ultimate aim of driving more traffic to Google”, Google product manager Minnie Ingersoll told the San Jose Mercury News at the time.

It appears that time has started to arrive.”

This sound like a very cool idea. Wi-Fi for the whole town. And with Google building a new cooperate office here in Arizona, I’m thinking we might have a chance for that in one of our cities here. Google seems to be coming up with all kinds of great ideas. Over at the Google Labs page they have all kinds of cool little sites and tools, but it’s a bit scary to think that one company doing it all. I mean they are even talking about working on their own operating system to compete with Microsoft. All and all I think they are great, let’s just hope it doesn’t turn disastrous.

DVR’s - the best invention since the internet

I have had my DVR for about 6 months now and LOVE IT. I used to never watch tv for two major reasons. One, I never could remember what night the shows are on and could never remember what times. Two, I was always too busy messing on the computer. Whether it was video games, chatting, surfing, or working on a video; I never watched tv. Well that has all changed now that I can watch them whenever I want. It helped too that my computer couldn’t play video games and I have a kid that keeps me busy. But, I actually have a few shows now that I follow. My favorites are Battlestar Galactica, 24, The Shield, and NCIS. But I catch all of the Adult Swim cartoons as well as all the CSI series’ and supercross races. Not only do I get to watch them whenever I want, but I get to skip commercials AND, since I have HBO I can record movies too. I love my DVR and if you don’t have one you should, they rule.

Here’s an article I found and thought I would share with you.

“Business 2.0 is pointing out the amusing contradiction that comes out of two separate studies on the use of DVR devices (like TiVo). The first one pretty much states the obvious: DVR owners almost always skip commercials for shows watched on the DVR. Less than 1% actually watch the commercials. That actually contradicts an earlier study, but we noted at the time that the participants in that study may have watched more ads because they knew they were being watched. Then the twist. Another report finds that DVR owners remember ads just as much as non-DVR owners. The reasoning is pretty straightforward: fast forwarding through commercials takes more concentration on the actual commercials. Meanwhile, regular ad retention isn’t that great, because non-DVR owners walk away from their TV or flip channels during commercial breaks. So, even if DVR owners are not watching the commercials as intended, by keeping an eye on the ads for the sake of figuring out when to stop fast forwarding, the important points are getting passed on. That suggests, at the very least, that recent attempts at TiVo-proof ads makes some sense for advertisers.”

Teens Arrested After Posting Incriminating Video To MySpace

As seen on Techdirt:

“Once again, MySpace proves to be a friend of law and order. Two teenagers have been arrested after posting a video of themselves firebombing an abandoned airplane hanger to the site. It seems that while many fear the site could be a haven for criminals and predators, it’s proving to be a place where scofflaws publicly expose their misdeeds. In fact, this could be the fulfillment of Jay Walker’s vision for an online neighborhood watch. It’s not clear if anyone thinks their pages are actually private. Surely they realize how easy it is to sign up and look at other people’s profiles. Then again, if you’re looking for yet another data point to explain why MySpace has lapped the field in the social networking space, it may have something to do with the perception that it is a private clubhouse that outsiders wouldn’t get, or don’t know about. Again, we can’t help but wonder what happens when the MySpace generation runs for office.”

I love stories like this. :)

iPod survey

As some of you may have noticed, my site has started to shoot pop-ups. I have come to the conclussion that this is being caused by the Bravenet poll that I am using. It wasn’t like this until just last week. So to stop the insanity I will be removing the poll Friday night the 7th. So if ou haven’t already gave me your info, scroll on down about 3-4 posts and tell me which iPod you are. Thanks and sorry about the pop-ups.
