Ok, I look at myself as someone who follows others, looks up to others, and aspires to be like others. More specific, the ones who are part of the great video blogging/web 2.0 community. I have dipped my feet into this pool of people and hope to one day walk along side them as a solid member of the community. Now I know some will say I already am, but I feel as if I am years behind the rest. I only learned of video blogs no more than 9-10 months ago and started to do my own only 5. And most of the online
communities I’m a part of I found just a few months ago as well. Bottom line, I’m a n00b.
Also, it seems like “most” of the community live in California with a few others scattered in places such as Seattle, Boston, and New York. There are even some international celebs. I’ve had the opportunity to chat with some really fantastic people of this community and they’ve welcomed me with open arms. I was even given the chance to work on one of my favorite shows for a few weeks. But I’m getting there and I’m getting there with help of the community. That’s kinda how they work.
There is a point to all of this I swear.
Since I’ve started video blogging and interacting with these people whether it be commenting on one of their posts/videos/photos or exchanging emails/IMs, others have started to take notice of my own posts/videos/photos; again, kinda how it works. Now my thoughts have always been that you leave a comment and the person you are leaving the comment for in return goes to your site via the link you leave on your name. But one thing I didn’t really think about, as silly as it sounds, is the other viewers of said post also going to my site via the name link. So someone I’ve never heard of or seen comes to my site and leaves a comment on one of my posts and thus we come full circle. The point of this whole rant is that we find inspiration in many things. I find it in people. You inspire me. I want to be like you.
Perhaps I inspire others. Perhaps not. But I know I’ve helped a few and pushed some others. For example, a long time friend from college recently started his blog over at CrispyLettuce.com. He went with wordpress and asked me some questions about plugins, rss feeds, and widgets. Most of which I had learned about only months ago. He is now rocking strong with his blog.
Then there’s Paolo. A random dude who found my site via flickr. He read some of my posts, watched some of my videos, and IMed me. We chatted for about an hour where he just asked me random questions about how I started vlogging and how I chose what to do in video form versus traditional text. And as I’m having this conversation I couldn’t help but notice that most of the questions he was asking I had asked no more than 3 months earlier. Since then Paolo has put out 6-7 video blogs and he’s finding his way nicely.
And then of course there’s Mia who resides at idreamofmia.com. I’ve been talking to Mia online now for over a year and have had some good times with her. She is an uber blogger posting anywhere from 1 to 10 posts a day ranging from quick little snippets of her thoughts to long ass rants on how she needs a cock. She runs a online porn site and so most of her stuff is not for “public” viewing. So when she did a video blog a few weeks ago I told her she should do them more often because she’s funny and I think has great camera presence. So she accepted my “dare” to vlog for 7 days straight and see if she could get over her issues with it. Hell she might even like it.
Over all I’m thrilled to have that many more people doing their thing their own way with whatever help I may have provided. Perhaps I’m more apart of this community than I thought.
Here are Paolo’s and Mia’s first vlogs.

Clinton, you would be one of my dearest friends, if only you were free to talk more.

But seriously, thanks for the call-out. I appreciate it. =)
Nice post Clintus. We’re all inspiring and pushing each other every day. Here’s looking forward to great things!
If you’re a n00b, what the hell does that make me?!?
