Pod Safe Music

Question for you all. When you look for music for your videos how do you find it? Do you search a genre and then just start listening? Do you already know of an artist or a site that has better stuff? I spent an hour one night on the podsafe music network and listened to dozens of clips trying to find a few. I did end up finding 2 I liked but still, there are hundreds more I haven’t listened to. When do you decide that this one will do? What are your methods. I believe it’s time I stepped up my video blogs to the next level and music is one of the ways to do this.

I go to podsafeaudio.com. You can look there by genre - and I usually search the film soundtrack genre and any other type that seems to fit my video, like acoustic, folk, blues, whatever I’m after. I usually find something I can use, sometimes quickly but sometimes it takes an hour.

Hate to say it, but I use whatever I like. I figure, I don’t make money from my personal videoblog so who cares?

If I was making a “show”, where I get advertising/sponsors/whatever, then I would change my tune.

I just start listening. I have built a play list with a bit of music I like that can be used.

Podsafe is great, but has the worst interface I have seen recently. I wish they would redesign.

I use magnatune.com for a lot of my videos. For our dirty diaper diaries vids, we also used public domain soundtrack music stripped from videos in the Prelinger Archive at archive.org.

I make all my own music in GarageBand. Sometimes I compose it from scratch with my guitar or keyboard and sometimes I just use the samples from the program to mix a new tune.

I use magnatune as well. I have a special podcast user code to download stuff for free - if you get in touch with them and tell the dealio they are cool about it.

I also use http://www.jamendo.com/ - it’s my latest fav site for music, more over the site is FAST and the intergrated flash music player is awesome. It’s a a bit of play and listen and dig thing, the best idea if you travel to work is maybe put them on a ipod and see which sticks. Personally i find the track to go with my clips before i build the movie so i know what vibe and style of delivery i want to put across.

    Cheers

Yeah, Magnatune is great. You can get a special license to download music for free if you email them your blog address and tell them it’s non-profit.

I’m the same as Casey. For the show I’m planning for this summer I am making my own music using GarageBand, Acid Pro, and recently I have just installed ProTools on my MacBook. With all the talk lately I have decided to put musician back in my title.
