Enchilada Casserole

THIS IS NOT A COOKING SHOW. This was just something I thought I would share because I don’t cook things that take this much time and energy very often. But this is my favorite dish my mom used to make and my first attempt at making it. Enjoy.

311 and Matisyahu

311 at Dodge TheatreI used to go to concerts pretty frequently when I was in high school and loved every adrenaline pumped minute of them. I think the last concert I went to was in my freshmen year of college which would make it well over 7 years ago. When I heard on the radio of 3 great shows coming up in August I knew the time had come and I had to go to one of them. The headliners for the 3 shows were Linkin Park, 311, and Korn; three of my favorite bands. Korn being my #1 fav made it my obvious first pick but since I had seen them 3 times already i started leaning towards the other two. Then I called my buddy Alex up and asked him if he had thought about going to either of them. He said that they had planned on going to the 311 concert and that we should join them. That made it easy to decide after that.Matisyahu at Dodge Theatre

After making the decision that we were in fact going I went and looked up who was playing with them and found out it was Matisyahu which made me that much more excited. I hadn’t listened to his whole album but from the singles played on the radio I was really diggin him. Went to iTunes and listened to a bunch of his other tracks to get a better feel for him and see if there were any other songs I would recognize of his.

clintus and AlexFast forward 3 weeks and I’m in Dodge Theatre rocking out to some hard core beats. The concert was from 8-11 and the energy was there the whole time. It was so gnarly that I can’t wait for the next concert to come up. It’s too bad Korn is this weekend and not a few more weeks out; I might have actually gone to it. My ears are still ringing from the sheer noise coming from the tower of speakers, but the excitement of the whole thing overpowers any amount of damaging decibels.

Got Bacn?

BacnI love the internet! I mean who doesn’t these days right? Viral has always been something I associated with video. You know, when a YouTube video gets passed around a million times and you end up seeing it on 5-6 of your favorite blogs. But a word going viral? I would have never guessed it. Apparently a new internet term was coined this weekend at PodCamp Pittsburgh 2 and like most things broadcasted on Twitter it’s spreading like crazy. Bacn.
“So what is it” you ask? Well my boy Chris Brogan breaks it down for us:

When you receive email that Geek is now following you on Twitter and Jennifer Gold just wrote on your Facebook wall, that’s bacn (pronounced “bacon”). It’s any email you receive that isn’t spam, but isn’t exactly a personal message either. Your electronic phone bill is bacn. Your Google alerts are bacn.

Or as Justin Kownacki says “bacn”, aka, the email you WANT but don’t have time for.” I love it. I heard it yesterday and after reading Mr. Brogan’s post on it I instantly starting using it.

Labeling things is important I think, especially on the internet. Justin lays it down for us:

Love it or hate it, “bacn” is a way to differentiate important-but-untimely email from “real” email or spam. It’s a descriptive word. It’s a classification. It’s useful.
Given the fact that so much miscommunication in this world comes from common misunderstandings — and that folks in Arab nations have dozens of words for the parts of a camel — I think it’s safe to say that we could all benefit from more (and clearer) language.

I wasn’t in Pittsburgh that rainy day to hear the birth of Bacn, but then again, I didn’t have to be.

Advertisement On Blogs

I was curious, what’s your take on ads on sites and blogs. Where should they be placed? How many should there be on a given page? How many on a given site? Something new I’ve seen is having a block on every blog post page; the one where you leave the comments at. They seem harmless and sometimes play video ads which I think is cool. Plus, more ads means the potential for more money.

At the moment I have one small “tower” of ads in the side bar that at times blends into the other crap there. But these new ads that play video, I like that. But they’re square and would need to be placed on the main portion of the page. And I think you get paid for the views, not necessarily the clicks which would definitely bring more cash. So what is your take on it? Is it too much, or do you not notice them? Do you even look at ads on peoples sites? More importantly do you ever click on the ads?

Back in Action

I’m attempting to make my way back to your blogs, videos, and lives. I’m also going to make a valiant effort to post more frequently whether it be a full on video or just a photo with some words. Keeping you guys up to date on my life is as important as me keeping up on yours. Thanks for sticking around.
