We need to talk! Let’s get some coffee and dream a little.

    Up for it?

Yo, if you have that cuppa and dream session with Brent, I want in too.

Wedding videos suck, man. Now when people ask me to do them, I tell them I will do it for one million dollars. Ha!

I think you should continue on but only take the jobs that you really want to do.

Or you could compromise. You could take jobs to make internet video. If you do that you could do it with a “less nice” camera but the footage would still be fine for the web.

I dunno, it’s a real dilemma. Hang in there. You’ll know what the right thing is for you - when you feel it, that’s when to decide.

If you do sell it all, then what?
You’ll have some short-time cash, but no equipment.

The camera isn’t costing you anything if you keep it, right?

I have a MacBookPro, but if I were to do it again, I would get the new iMac with a 24″ screen - less money and a faster machine.

Of course, my current situation sucks more than yours, so what advice can I offer?

Health insurance - in America sucks if you ask me! It’s ALL bad….
It is too expensive - and you get nothing!

I got health insurance After racking up over 5 thou of medical bills……And now? I can’t afford to go to the Dr. because I have to pay my monthly premiums! lol….and I can’t afford the copays!

That’s how side gigs are man, the money never goes where you want it to. And besides, we don’t do it for the money, Clint. We do it because it’s what we love to do. We can’t fulfill the desire 8-5 so we seek it elsewhere.

I wouldn’t sell your camera, homz. That will limit your options and opportunities. Besides, laptops are only good for a couple years…

If anything, it’s time to put that camera to use again!

    I’m seasick after watching that…

Tough choices. You’ll face them all your life. :)

Clintus Maximus Meridus, I would keep the camera and also consider stunt driving for a major studio. I couldn’t stop myself from getting motion sickness while trying to keep up with your dialog, all-the-while seeing how fast the landscape was whizzing by while you were filming yourself! You wouldn’t happen to be texting your wife at the same time with your other hand would ya?

I vote to stay in the mix. Keep the camera. I probably have an older one than you…it’s knowing how to use it that will make you shine. And your stuff is looking good, so stick w/it. It’s gonna start to cook out there.
I used to work for Cox. Aetna was good back then. My first kid was the most expensive and I think they gave me a refund for the 3rd one!

There are huge problems with contract work. You initially think yeah I’m my own boss. Then everyone you do work for thinks that they are your boss. You just went from one to how ever many. It’s really a hard juggling act, to find the good clients and stay sane. As for selling your gear, this is always a hard one for me, I have done so many of these, with music/audio gear that I always regret. If it is an upgrade and you can still keep the contracts then yes. With the plummeting prices it does make sense some times to drop something with a perceived value, to get something smaller more functional. I have a very similar situation with a 24 channel mixing board sitting in my room that I use 2-4 channels of. I could really simplify, but what if I ever want 24 preamps to record a full band again, am I going to do it. That’s why I’m do into building my own stuff. I can’t build a camera - yet. :)
