I’m so tired of all the haters and bullshit over there. It’s not worth it to me. My videos may never go viral but at least I won’t be compelled to reach through the screen and beat the shit out of someone for being ignorant.

I think Vimeo has the best community. Just a great vibe. I think it’s because most people who are on Vimeo are also creators.
I totally agree with you on all points. I love vimeo.
You hit it on the head dude. It was the one video service I just never felt motivated to upload to and never followed up on. I agree Vimeo is a great service as far as community and I also like blip.tv because of the ease of getting the different formats for my vlog. Clintus the one thing that I have always appreciated about your vlog is your candor and the truthfulness in it. You speak on many of the things that I just do, a sign of a good vlogger. Glad you posted this and keep up the good vlogging.
Thanks Fem, I try to stay true to my videos as I do in life. No bull shit. Thanks for always watching.
Hi Clint! I totally agree with you in your points about YouTube. But I have two questions for you. One, why not continue to post to YouTube, but turn off the ability to comment, simply directing people here if they want to comment? And two, are you wearing any clothes?
I’m kissing off Vimeo since they decided to shit on game/gaming creators and took this arrogant snobbish ‘because we said so’ approach AND are in the position to review things that are 50/50 ‘is it a game or is it machinima’. Most of the hardworking gamer types CHOSE vimeo because of quality and few options, and we knew we’d have a nicer crowd to roll with. Apparently not.
I keep my YouTube vids on moderation (except for friends) and wish Google would let us say ‘comments off’ entirely, because yes, it does suck. But hell, at this point we’re used to it. If it’s not digg comments or TechCrunch comments, hell, funk em all together.
I’m still pissed about Vimeo though, I chose them because of quality and an upscale environment and masking elitist bullshit with weak arguments and nonsensical statements about certain parts of the community.
At least we still have lip-dubs.
I’m with you. Just say NO to YouTube.
@Cheryl - That’s an idea with the no comments, but I don’t want to bring that kind of crap here either. At least their they have to have an account. But I’ll mull that one over. And no, I always vlog late a night naked.
@Eric - I am sorry for you and other gamers for the choice Vimeo made. I see good and bad points with it but support the decision since it helps me, and everyone else, with transcode times; and because I myself do not make those kinds of videos. But that’s just me.
@Mike - I think I may start a campaign.
The thing is, you’re believing this nonsensical false truth. Gaming videos take up no more or no less time than Scoble or some other long form content. It’s discriminatory by thinking the content affects the tech. That whole processing time issue is -bullshit-.
It’s a cultural elitism. They only added the ‘oh yeah, and copyright’ AFTER a few hundred comments shit on them for being ignorant.
Whatever, it’s a lost cause. Youtube is full of lesser humans and Vimeo is run by people better than humans.
That’s life.
But here, you can moderate it. Since turning off comments I haven’t gotten any YouTube haters fouling my site. They don’t seem to want to bother. Just FYI. I support not using YouTube at all. I use it infrequently. I guess it just depends on how much you want to reach out to that audience to gain viewership. I’m used to being unpopular, so I don’t care much about that.
Being able to disable comments on YT is OK, but pointless if you want feedback and to make contact with people, so I agree with you on this one. Personally, what you’ve said was the reason I didn’t (and still don’t) use YT much - swears and insults are just too common there by people who are happily hidden behind their aliases, and their creation is no more than recorded TV broadcast.
So I guess what you do is the best way - to have your vids elsewhere and comments over here on idoitdigital.com.
Clintus…I’m going to follow this trend. I might even do like you and post a video on YouTube telling people why too. I started posting my stuff over on YouTube only to have haters appear out of the woodwork. Now I have to moderate and delete comments there. Something I am opposed to. Like you, I’ll stick with Vimeo and Blip.
@eric I guess Blip is “elitist” as well since they did the same thing Vimeo is doing. Only they did it a while back to no fanfare. I feel for you too but I dont make gaming videos so I’m really not all that bothered by their choice.
I have to completely agree with you. Both in terms of quality and because of commenting.
Honestly, both the comment and the ranking system need to go to hell.
Good choice on Vimeo.
@eric Something vimeo could have done, was offer up free or cheap alternatives to transcode videos to .flv format, then see what happened on transcoding times. It seemed a little short-sighted to alienate so quickly, but it is their decision to make whether it was a good business or community decision remains to be seen.
For the record: I encode my own .flv files out of choice, with the exception of Flickr which doesn’t allow the format.
@Cheryl - this is true, most wont leave the site. And you are far from unpopular.
@GoGen - Exactly. I feed off the comments. I make what I like but still taylor somethings off of user participation. Whether its here on the site or via other social networking sites.
@David - that’s the thing that finally pushed me over, the amount of comments I deleated and the number of users I was banning. I’m done. You should check out Viddler.com as another great community to host your videos. They have a cool commenting system as well.
@Adrian - comments are good when they are positive or constructive. Not when they are bashing or are ignorant. I love Viddler’s commenting system.
@TaulPaul - I need work on my flv skills. That’s the one format I have yet to work with.
Funny - I left a comment on your YouTube video page a few hours ago, but it didn’t work. Obviously wasn’t hateful enough for their filter.
John at http://totalvom.com also posted a video today about leaving YouTube because of the narks.
I’ve always always felt this way about YouTube. I’ve never used them for these reasons.
It is pretty amazing how great and supportive people are on personal vlogs, and a total shock how shit people are on YT just because of anonymity and immaturity. Fuck ‘em.
But weirdly in the last few weeks I’ve started to use them. The Annotations thing is going to be fun, and I just turn off the comments or moderate them. But I use them for stuff that’s not personal videoblogging.
The truth is, it’s good for Some Things. Videoblogging isn’t one of them. We’re opening up our personal worlds, and that involves levels of trust and reciprocation. YouTube is about traffic. It’s not about community.
I Report, Mark As Spam and Block the shit out of anybody I see being nasty there. I’ve written to Steve Chen, the CTO & founder, asking him to sort it out, for what that’s worth. If they really want it to survive beyond a novelty and be more than a giant thrift store for used video, then they need to sort their shit out asap.
@Rupert - You some it up right here:
“The truth is, it’s good for Some Things. Videoblogging isn’t one of them. We’re opening up our personal worlds, and that involves levels of trust and reciprocation. YouTube is about traffic. It’s not about community.”
Thank you sir.

Awesome video and great conversation. Guess I’m used to people either loving me or hating me. Seems to be no middle ground for me, but really… there never has.
My beef with YT right now? That the tag “teen” (as in Teen Betty, my adorable niece who starred in my last episode) is synonymous with the tag “porn.” Led to a whole new discussion if you know what I mean. I’ve never moderated comments before, but I did for them. Sickos are out there in addition to the haters.
We love you, Clintus!
Yay - f’ YouTube. I can’t get stand the vibe that site has, it’s just terrible.
I didn’t mean to write “get” in my comment - it makes no sense
I couldnt agree more….. I use VIDDLER FOR MORE THINGS for my recorded videos ( well I plan to I have 1 video uploaded ) but I dont blog on AOL no more I use blogger.com now to blog…
I guess the reason that I wont upload my videos there is because of the fact that for some reason I am getting trolled on youtube and having nasty comments left on my profile about ” your a fat A** or your fat ” I mean just stupid kiddy BS… I mean I am not even chunky at all and they have have really nothing on me.
Eh.. its no skin off my back I just block and mark and spam and move on!

I wish I had the balls to leave YouTube. Maybe one day. I’m sad for this new generation of trolls.
Wrote about this a few hours ago.
Go Viddler, I think they hold what’s best in terms of video-centric community building so far.
