For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you may have seen a Twit I shot out today referencing an episode of Galacticast and my love for Casey McKinnon that may have come across as racial or hateful towards people of a particular religion. I in no means meant for this and am very sorry to those who may have found it offensive. I didn’t realize how bad it actually sounded until it was brought up to me. I have no hate or negative thoughts towards any human being on this planet due to their skin color, sexual preference, or religious belief. Anything that has or could come across in that way was most likely a bad joke or in this case a bad choice of words. Please accept my sincerest apologies.

That is the question I’ve been kicking around the past week or so. I’m sure most of you know what a Tumblelog is and if not; Wikipedia says:
A tumblelog is a variation of a blog, that favors short-form, mixed-media posts over the longer editorial posts frequently associated with blogging. Common post formats found on tumblelogs include links, photos, quotes, dialogues, and video. Unlike blogs, this format is frequently used to share the author’s creations, discoveries, or experiences without providing a commentary. One of the many tumblelog sevices is tumblr.
So with that being said I love the idea behind the simplicity and quick shots to your page; especially from my mobile. But the #1 thing holding me back is comments. There isn’t any. Comments are a huge deal to me; both receiving and giving. I mean first off, I love leaving comments on your blogs, even if it’s just to say “hi, nice post”. It lets you know I was there, I read it, and to me that’s important. Visa versa with comments on my site, it lets me know you were there, and that means a lot to me.
So I guess the point of this post is to see what your thoughts are on this. Would you be more inclined to read a blog if it were simpler? If it were just shots through out the day. One thing I’ve noticed with these is people seem to post more often than a normal blog. For those of you out there currently using a tumblelog as your primary blog, what do you feel it’s missing? What can they improve on?

I don’t really drink coffee, I drink tea. So I’ve never really gone to a Starbucks to work or meet up with friends. And the fact that I sold my laptop right around the time I started doing the whole online thing means I never really had the need to do so either. Well last month T-Mobile dropped the price of their total internet package by $10 allowing me to get HotSpots for the same price as I was already paying. Again, since I don’t have a “personal” laptop, don’t go to Starbucks regularly, and don’t do a lot of traveling, this wasn’t that big of a deal; but I made the switch anyways.
I knew that sometime this past Saturday I was going to have to get my oil changed and rotate my tires. So I packed up the laptop, dropped my truck off, and walked down to Starbucks to give the Hotspot a try. I ordered me a Green Tea and Lemonade, very tasty, and made my way to one of the tables in the corner. Once I was unloaded and fired up I began to do my thing. At first it felt like every other time I was on the net but after about 20 minutes or so I was digging the vibe of the shop. The random people coming and going; the cute girl behind the counter knowing everyone’s name and what they ordered; and even the annoying guy who obviously hung out their way too much eventually became part of the atmosphere. I could really start to see why people like Chris Brogan and Justine preferred to work at a place like this instead of just home. Home can get boring. Home can be distracting. Obviously there are distractions at the coffee shop but the distractions at home can make you stop what you’re doing. These, not so much.
At the end of it all, I felt great. I hadn’t got much done but the 2 hours I spent there was some much needed solo time. I don’t get much of that these days. Driving to and from work is about it. I can’t wait to get my Mac Book Pro and start doing this more often. I really miss being online and doing all the things I’m used to doing. Don’t get me wrong, I love this dad gig I have going on, but sometimes you just need to unplug from life, and plug into the net.

I don’t know what to think of this. I mean it sounds great and all, but I’m one of the assholes who text messages while driving. And not just texting, I read and write email, I use Google Maps, pull up websites, and even chat on an IM. I know, it sounds horrible, but it’s not that bad since I drive almost all freeway where ever I go. Right?
So what does the ban in tale you ask? well this from a local news site:
Through Oct. 20, drivers pulled over for texting will receive a warning. After that, they can be cited $100 for the act, or $250 if an accident is involved. With surcharges, the $100 fine comes to $202.40, and the $250 fine will cost $478.40.
So how does this make me feel? Don’t know really. Not excited about it that’s for sure. Will I stop texting while I drive? Probably not. But I might be a bit more cautious when driving in Phoenix, kinda like I am when I speed.

I used to go to concerts pretty frequently when I was in high school and loved every adrenaline pumped minute of them. I think the last concert I went to was in my freshmen year of college which would make it well over 7 years ago. When I heard on the radio of 3 great shows coming up in August I knew the time had come and I had to go to one of them. The headliners for the 3 shows were Linkin Park, 311, and Korn; three of my favorite bands. Korn being my #1 fav made it my obvious first pick but since I had seen them 3 times already i started leaning towards the other two. Then I called my buddy Alex up and asked him if he had thought about going to either of them. He said that they had planned on going to the 311 concert and that we should join them. That made it easy to decide after that.
After making the decision that we were in fact going I went and looked up who was playing with them and found out it was Matisyahu which made me that much more excited. I hadn’t listened to his whole album but from the singles played on the radio I was really diggin him. Went to iTunes and listened to a bunch of his other tracks to get a better feel for him and see if there were any other songs I would recognize of his.
Fast forward 3 weeks and I’m in Dodge Theatre rocking out to some hard core beats. The concert was from 8-11 and the energy was there the whole time. It was so gnarly that I can’t wait for the next concert to come up. It’s too bad Korn is this weekend and not a few more weeks out; I might have actually gone to it. My ears are still ringing from the sheer noise coming from the tower of speakers, but the excitement of the whole thing overpowers any amount of damaging decibels.

I love the internet! I mean who doesn’t these days right? Viral has always been something I associated with video. You know, when a YouTube video gets passed around a million times and you end up seeing it on 5-6 of your favorite blogs. But a word going viral? I would have never guessed it. Apparently a new internet term was coined this weekend at PodCamp Pittsburgh 2 and like most things broadcasted on Twitter it’s spreading like crazy. Bacn.
“So what is it” you ask? Well my boy Chris Brogan breaks it down for us:
When you receive email that Geek is now following you on Twitter and Jennifer Gold just wrote on your Facebook wall, that’s bacn (pronounced “bacon”). It’s any email you receive that isn’t spam, but isn’t exactly a personal message either. Your electronic phone bill is bacn. Your Google alerts are bacn.
Or as Justin Kownacki says “bacn”, aka, the email you WANT but don’t have time for.” I love it. I heard it yesterday and after reading Mr. Brogan’s post on it I instantly starting using it.
Labeling things is important I think, especially on the internet. Justin lays it down for us:
Love it or hate it, “bacn” is a way to differentiate important-but-untimely email from “real” email or spam. It’s a descriptive word. It’s a classification. It’s useful.
Given the fact that so much miscommunication in this world comes from common misunderstandings — and that folks in Arab nations have dozens of words for the parts of a camel — I think it’s safe to say that we could all benefit from more (and clearer) language.
I wasn’t in Pittsburgh that rainy day to hear the birth of Bacn, but then again, I didn’t have to be.
