Track This

twitter
As with most of you out there, I’m addicted to Twitter and love following your lives up to the minute. Now anything they can do to make that experience better for me, I’m all for. Their newest update gives us tracking; a way to follow words or “concepts”. I think this is the coolest addition to Twitter ever! The #1 thing I love about Twitter is the fact that you can send and receive updates from your mobile via SMS and this tool just extends that even more. You can track any word you want, even someone’s name. The updates are sent to your mobile and denotes someone you don’t follow with parentheses around their name.

It’s so easy to track and untrack things too. Just send ‘track’ and the word you want to track to Twitter’s mobile number 40404. You’ll receive an update stating you’re now tracking that word. To stop tracking it simply send ‘untrack’ and the word you wish to stop getting updates on. Want to find out everything you’re currently tracking? Send ‘track’ alone to find out.

I’m already tracking a bunch of words and am finding a lot of new friends to follow. Thank you Twitter team for making Twitter that much better, for me.

I <3 Google Reader

google readerAs most of you know, I love going through your feeds. I live for them. My reader of choice of course is Google Reader. It’s web based so I can check in whereever I have an internet connection, which is a main reason why I use a lot of Google’s services.

A few months ago they released something called Google Gears which allows you to take your new feed items offline. At first I thought to myself, this defeats the purpose of having a web based RSS reader. Then it hit me, I get the best of both worlds. I’m live when I have an internet connection and can go offline when I’m on a plane or somewhere that doesn’t have an internet connection. SCORE!

Well the guys over there in the labs have done it again. They’ve added some new features that I’m just as excited about. First off, a FRAKING SEARCH BAR!!! I mean you would think this is something simple from the guys at Google but until now there hasn’t been one. Second, the “All Items” count can now go up to 1000+ instead of just 100+ which is a good thing for me since I tend to get behind in my new items very quickly. Also, you can now hide the side navigation by clicking on the separator to its right, and Reader now behaves like every other web page and lets you use the forward and back buttons to move between folders and subscriptions that you’ve navigated to.

I love Google Reader now more than ever. Thank you Google. For the latest on Google Reader check out their Official Blog.

(EDIT) A few people have asked me abou some of my reader stats so I thought I would put them in here. They are as of today (9/10/07):

From your 140 subscriptions, over the last 30 days you read 6,089 items, starred 16 items, shared 23 items, and emailed 0 items.

Steve Garfield Creates and Watches Internet TV with a Nokia N95

Check out Steve Garfield’s video on how he shot, edited, and played his video all with the Nokia N95. This just goes to show that technology is a beautiful thing and great things are to come. You can check out Steve Garfield’s video blog at SteveGarfield.com.

In this video, I’m watching video on a Nokia N95 via a cable connection to my TV. The video I'm watching was filmed and edited on the N95, uploaded to my video blog, and then downloaded back to the N95 using the Nokia Video Centre via the RSS 2.0 with enclosures feed from my video blog. This is a glimpse into the future of creation and consumption of Internet TV. This video has been entered in Network2.tv’s How do YOU watch Internet TV contest.

LG announces combo HD-DVD/Blu-Ray drive

LG has announced a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray combo drive for computers, reports Engadget. However, while it is capable of reading both HD formats, it will only be able to write to Blu-Ray discs. It’s due to be released at the end of January, but unfortunately the $1200 price tag won’t mean you get to pick one up anytime soon.

Twitter

I first saw this on Chris Brogan’s blog then again on Zadi Diaz’s blog. I always thought it was a cool idea but never really looked into it. Once I did I realized how fraking awesome it was. What Twitter does is allows you to post a quick blog like entry of what you’re up to from their site, an IM, or right from your phone and posts it to your Twitter page; which then can be put into a widget on your blog. I LOVE IT!! It’s awesome cause you can see what your friends/contacts are up to as they update it; and from what I can see, people update it all the time. Plus you can get updates sent right to your phone. That’s kinda stalkish, huh? I can’t wait to add the widget to the site. But that will be part of the 2.0 roll out :) .

So if you’re on Twitter send me an add. If your not, get on it and tell the world what you’re up to.
