As most of you know, I love going through your feeds. I live for them. My reader of choice of course is Google Reader. It’s web based so I can check in whereever I have an internet connection, which is a main reason why I use a lot of Google’s services.
A few months ago they released something called Google Gears which allows you to take your new feed items offline. At first I thought to myself, this defeats the purpose of having a web based RSS reader. Then it hit me, I get the best of both worlds. I’m live when I have an internet connection and can go offline when I’m on a plane or somewhere that doesn’t have an internet connection. SCORE!
Well the guys over there in the labs have done it again. They’ve added some new features that I’m just as excited about. First off, a FRAKING SEARCH BAR!!! I mean you would think this is something simple from the guys at Google but until now there hasn’t been one. Second, the “All Items” count can now go up to 1000+ instead of just 100+ which is a good thing for me since I tend to get behind in my new items very quickly. Also, you can now hide the side navigation by clicking on the separator to its right, and Reader now behaves like every other web page and lets you use the forward and back buttons to move between folders and subscriptions that you’ve navigated to.
I love Google Reader now more than ever. Thank you Google. For the latest on Google Reader check out their Official Blog.
(EDIT) A few people have asked me abou some of my reader stats so I thought I would put them in here. They are as of today (9/10/07):
From your 140 subscriptions, over the last 30 days you read 6,089 items, starred 16 items, shared 23 items, and emailed 0 items.

I’ve been wanting to talk about RSS and Feed readers and came across this video today on Chris Brogan’s site. It explains very simply why you should be using a feed reader.
Now that you’ve watched that and are excited to start subscribing to feeds, you can start by subscribing to mine. You can do so by either clicking on the big blue RSS logo at the top of the page or on this one right here
Subscribe in a reader.
I’ve been using Google Reader now for months and as the video states, I’m addicted to the feeds. I never miss anything now, though it can bite you back when you start to subscribe to too many. I’m currently at 101 feeds and it gets rough sometimes keeping up with it all. But that’s my bag baby.
The original post and video can be found here.

A few of you have asked me about this either in email or IM and it’s up now. The links are on the bottom of the right side bar next to my Technorati Profile link. There is one for the posts and one for the comments so take your pick. For those of you who don’t know, RSS feeds are a way for blog readers to pick up all of your posts and/or comments and put them into their format for your reading pleasure. I use Google Reader. It’s just a way to read all your blogs in one place at one time.
